Abby's Heroes Hosts First-Ever Big Camp Out at Rivendell Park

Thanks to an incredibly generous offer from Natalie at Rivendell Park, Abby's Heroes was delighted to host its very first Big Camp Out on 12th and 13th September for families we have supported throughout their cancer journeys.

Nestled in the tranquil Dorset countryside, Rivendell Park provided the perfect setting for families to relax, unwind and enjoy precious time together away from the challenges of everyday life.

Families arrived on Saturday morning and were welcomed to a fantastic range of accommodation, including beautiful safari tents, bell tents, dome tents, a charming house and the cosy Nook. Once settled in, everyone had the opportunity to explore the stunning site, enjoy the swimming pool and hot tub, and simply spend quality time together before the afternoon's activities got underway.

There was no shortage of adventure and fun. The brilliant team from Seriously Cool Events joined us for the afternoon, bringing archery and axe throwing that proved hugely popular with both children and adults alike. Susana from VIP Face Paint created some amazing face-paint designs, while families also enjoyed fairy doors, inflatable football, giant Kerplunk, giant noughts and crosses, and a pirate ship big build activity. All of this was beautifully captured by Penny Plimmer of JAPICS Photography, whose photographs perfectly reflect the smiles, laughter and special moments of the children and families who attended.

As evening approached, families gathered together to enjoy a delicious BBQ prepared by Mobile BBQ and Catering, complete with fresh salads and sweet treats. The relaxed setting gave everyone the chance to chat, connect and create lasting memories. The day ended perfectly with marshmallows and s'mores around the campfire, accompanied by guitar music and singing from the wonderful Bronte.

Sunday morning brought even more opportunities to relax and have fun. Families enjoyed a yoga session with Sam, took another dip in the pool, and experienced thrilling passenger rides courtesy of Sporting Bears. With a Lotus, two Porsches, a Maserati and a Mustang on offer, there was certainly plenty to choose from.

The weekend was a resounding success, filled with laughter, friendship and special moments for everyone involved.
